Basic eBike Care and Maintenance

Ensure your eBike is safe and ready for adventure. Take 10 to 15 minutes to complete a few simple steps before and after every ride, and you’ll extend the life of your components. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Floor pump with gauge
  • Chain lubricant
  • Rags
  • Bucket
  • Scrub brush
  • Biodegradable dish soap

Before Every Ride:

BATTERY

Check that your battery has sufficient charge. Do not ride using pedal assist if battery is low.

TIRES

Check tire pressure. Use a gauge and pump the tires to within the PSI range on YOUR tire sidewalls.

BRAKES

Squeeze brake levers. If the brake lever touches the handlebar when you squeeze the lever, do not ride the eBike until it has been adjusted. Check brakes to ensure they are functioning properly. There should be no rubbing or squeaking.

CHAIN

Wipe down the chain with a dry rag. Lightly lube the chain. Wipe off excess lube.

AXLES

Check thru-axles or quick-release tension. Ensure they are tight and lever leaves imprint in palm while closing.

After Every Ride:

FRONT SHOCK

If you have a front shock, wipe down the fork stanchions with a rag.

DRIVETRAIN

For extremely muddy or dusty conditions, use bike-friendly soap and a hose set at low water pressure to clean the drivetrain. Dry bike thoroughly. Lubricate when dry.

BATTERY

If battery is warm, let it cool to room temperature before charging. Using charger that came with your bike, charge battery to full capacity. Unplug as soon as the battery has reached full charge and do not leave plugged in for longer than 12 hours. Read more about battery care.

STORE

Store your eBike indoors.

While you’ll likely want to take your eBike to your local bike shop for more-involved maintenance like replacing the chain or brake pads, the steps above will keep your bike running well in the meantime.
